Predictions for the MLB Standings – NL East

First check out: Predictions for the MLB Standings – AL West.

Now here’s my prediction for the National League East.

1. Washington Nationals

They’re too good to place anywhere else in the division. Last season the Nationals won 97 ballgames and it wasn’t even close. They took the division by winning 20 games more than the second place Marlins. The pitching staff is very solid and they obviously have an MVP in Bryce Harper leading the offense. In his walk year, I think Bryce completely goes off and wins an MVP. This will help the Nats take the division over the second place Philadelphia Phillies!

2. Philadelphia Phillies

What a year it’ll be for the city of Philly. Their Eagles win the Super Bowl (boo), their Sixers finally make the playoffs, and now their Phillies will follow suit. I think they turn heads this season. With all of their powerful offensive talent, the Phillies also have some young arms. It’s lead by veteran Jake Arrieta, whom the Phillies signed this offseason to add a finishing touch. So I think this season, the Phillies shock the world and sneak by the Mets to become a Wild Card team. Speaking of the Mets…

3. New York Mets

The Mets have a very good roster. They honestly have a World Series ceiling with that roster. The problem is however, that roster is never healthy. Every year something seems to be going wrong with the Mets. It even feels like 2015 never happened because of how cursed they seem to be. While they may be a decent club this season, I still like the Phillies and I think they will have wanted it a bit more. With that being said, I could’ve put the Mets in second to be honest, but I wanted to make at least one bold take. I haven’t had one yet and so I think a realistic one could be the Mets losing a Wild Card spot to the Phillies.

4. Atlanta Braves

They are one of the best rebuilding teams in baseball if that counts for anything. The Braves may not win too many games in 2018, but they’ll keep taking the next step forward. Loaded with talent and eager to succeed, the Braves are going to be good soon. It’s just not going to be this year. They’re in a division that seems to be pretty decent and just don’t have full development just yet. Better? Yes. There yet? Not quite. Ronald Acuna seems to be the extremely early favorite to win Rookie of the Year though. Fans have that to be excited about for the meantime.

5. Miami Marlins

Derek Jeter made it pretty clear what direction the Marlins were going in on December 9th, 2017. When he traded away the league’s MVP Giancarlo Stanton, it was the official start of a flat-out rebuild. I can’t say the Marlins will even be competitive in 2018. This could even be a thing that lasts for the next three or so years. Mostly everybody is gone and pretty soon J.T. Realmuto will be too. We’ll see what happens but don’t expect anything better than a 60-to-65 win season.
